Goals of the Conference

Practicing Jews: Art, Identity, and Culture convened academics, artists, and community members for a week of dialogue at the intersection of Jewish identity and creative practice. The conference examined how visual culture, dance, and the arts shape — and are shaped by — Jewish experience.

Through keynote addresses, panel discussions, and gallery exhibitions, the event created space for critical reflection on representation, tradition, and innovation in Jewish artistic life.

Conference History

The conference grew out of a desire to bring together diverse voices exploring Jewish art and identity. Held in Madison, Wisconsin, it featured programming across multiple venues including the Wisconsin Union Theater, UW Cinematheque, and Hillel.
